La Maritxu is a family-run business founded by three Basque sisters, Maria, Almudena and Lucia. For many years, they dreamed of bringing a taste of Basque culture to their new homes abroad. In 2021, that dream became a reality with the creation of La Maritxu.
The name combines Maria’s name with the Basque suffix -txu, a term of affection often added to names in the Basque Country. It reflects the warmth and heritage behind their signature dessert: the Basque burnt cheesecake, also known as San Sebastian cheesecake. This recipe has been passed down through generations and is always made with care and love.
La Maritxu’s cheesecakes are baked fresh in store every day using only the finest ingredients. They can be enjoyed by the slice or ordered whole, making them perfect for any occasion. The team is also experimenting with new menu items, so more Basque desserts will be joining the line-up soon.
