How to Approach Squirrels in London

They’re fast, they’re cute and they’re in almost every London green space. So how do we approach them? Most of the squirrels in London are Grey Squirrels. These are actually native to North America, but were introduced to the UK in the 19th and 20th centuries which ultimately replaced the UK’s native red squirrel.

If Permitted, How Can We Feed Them?

We recommend you only feed squirrels unseasoned and unsalted nuts! Hazelnuts, walnuts, and almonds are their favourites, but peanuts are also appreciated. Squirrels also love chopped apples, carrots and spinach.

Squirrel Safety

If you find an injured squirrel, please call RSPCA or a local vet in your area. We know they’re cute, but don’t pick squirrels up as they have very sharp teeth, that they use for cracking nuts!
