At the heart of the MM ethos is community building and we are committed to ensuring that all parts of our community are able to access our markets and activities.
This year, we are proud to host our annual Summer Camp, the most important Community project at Mercato.
The Summer Camp is a programme of free activities and meals for children in the Southwark area. The main goal is to fight childhood food insecurity, an issue that affects children mostly during school holidays. Southwark is the London borough with the highest level of childhood food insecurity in the city.
Mercato has been delivering this programme since 2018, in collaboration with Southwark Council, several community partners and our valuable trading partners.
This year we have welcomed almost 200 children over 4 weeks of activities, distributing over 500 meals with the support of 12 different Trading Partners.
